Meisel Receives G7 Color Certification

Meisel always works hard to stay on the forefront of technology, so being one of the first digital printers in the country to receive our G7 certification should come as no surprise. What is a surprise, however, should be the importance of the G7 certification.

G7 is a revolutionary new process that helps commercial printers like Meisel print consistent color with less preparation and less waste. This new methodology allows printers who maintain a G7 certification to reliably produce high quality printing that matches from proof to press, and from one G7 press to other G7 presses. Meisel has invested in G7 technology, allowing us to have one standard that provides predictable and consistent color without setting up presses according to different methods on a job-by-job basis.

Developed by the IDEAlliance and the GRACoL Committee, G7 is named for its gray scale calibration technique and the 7 ISO ink colors it requires. The "G" refers to calibrating Gray values, while the "7" refers to the seven primary color values: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black (K), Red (M&Y), Green (C&Y) and Blue (C&M). It describes how to use the principles of digital imaging, spectrophotometry, and computer-to-plate (CtP) technologies to achieve these color matches using quality inks and papers. Essentially, G7 is a set of instructions on the methods for calibrating a press or proofing system based on spectrophotometry (colorimetric data) for gray balance instead of traditional densitometric (dot gain/TVI) methods.

Meisel is proud to be a certified G7™ Master Printer. Here are some of the benefits you will receive:

  • The assurance that your final prints will match your proofs
  • Faster make ready time results in less paper waste
  • Color consistency is maintained throughout the press run

The International Digital Enterprise Alliance G7™ Master qualification program identifies only those printing companies who have been trained to proof and print using the new G7™ methodology. The qualification mark means that the printer uses the most modern technology, techniques and process controls and standards required to produce high-quality commercial printing. To continue Master Printer status, Meisel will go through a yearly re-certification to assure we maintain IDEAlliance calibration and processes.
