Eddie Bauer Fills 2,700 Holiday Windows
Project Scope
Eddie Bauer wanted to share the idea of a classic winter vacation for their holiday promotion. The theme was "Gifts That Start the Adventure". Each window would have Eddie Bauer product and props to support the theme, but they needed a back drop to tie it all together. The material also needed to be double-sided because the window banners are seen from the store side as well as the exterior. Another requirement was that the banners had to hang straight and flat without distracting rippling. In addition, they wanted to dress out every one of the 2,700 windows, but the widths of each window varied by store, making it very difficult to figure exactly how many of each sized banner they would need.
The initial idea was to use a shiny silver metallic material, but since each banner needed to be double-sided, all of the silver materials were either unprintable on two sides or cost prohibitive.
Meisel's Solution
Meisel proposed printing the snowy mountainscapes on Lambda Metallic paper. This would make the snow have a "frosted" effect and keep the old fashioned feel better than a silver material. In order to simplify the installation process for the stores, the banners were partially assembled at Meisel. Store personnel simply attached a Gotcha strip on the top and bottom, and removed the release liner on a piece of double stick tape that held the sides closed.
Dimension was added by applying white snowflake clings in varying sizes and transparencies to the windows themselves. The effect was multi-layered and multiple snowflake designs kept it visually interesting. Clings were shipped on a sheet allowing them to easily be peeled and applied in a random pattern.
The Results
By printing the banners in smaller "slices" of the mountains, each store gained flexibility to create a banner that fit their unique store windows. Working with Eddie Bauer corporate visual team, Meisel clearly labeled, kitted, and provided complete assembly instructions. The project rolled out seamlessly and was a huge success.
Congratulations and thanks to Eddie Bauer for letting Meisel be a partner in your success.
